Services - Grip Measurement
|
|
The pneumatic tire skid resistance on the roadways/runways is one of parameters
being the subject of a scrupulous monitoring. Within this framework, intervenes
the measurement device S.F.T. (Surface Friction Trailer)
The Tester of Friction of Surface (SFT) functions with a fixed longitudinal slipperiness
of approximately 13% on the wheel of test. It is of recent standard ISO concerning
the measurement of friction of roads and tracks of airports. The relationship to
standard SCRIM and the standard British Pendulum makes of it an ideal tool at different
speeds like 18,64 mph (30 Km/h), 37,28 mph (60 Km/h) and 55, 92 mph (90 Km/h).
Equipped with system of Programmable Control Unit and a transmitter of data of friction,
the information processing system includes a system of measurement per computer.
It controls the good procedure of measurement and gives the results on screen and/or
paper.

It is equipped with a system of car-watering as required by the FAA and the OACI.
The system of car-watering simulates the rain on the infrastructure of the roadway/runway.
The system is equipped with a water pump and the operator can electronically adjust
the depth of water film from 0.0039 inches (0.1 millimetres) to 0, 1969 inches (5
millimetres).
Any data gathering conducted on a wet runway with the self-wetting system turned
off cannot be used for the purpose of friction monitoring assessment.
(The A.R.S.F.C. CAP 683, Chapter 2, December 2008)
When the wheel of measurement passes on the takeoff and runways landing parts, the
friction creates a torque which is transferred to the system and is measured by
a sensor of load. This Sensor of Load controls the vertical pressure by a hydraulic
system and is readjusted if necessary, therefore ensuring a constant pressure of
contact with the pavement.
The wheel of measurement is a special “high pressure” wheel developed for this specific
type of operational measurement. The measurement of the results obtained with this
type of pneumatic tire simulates the characteristics of a braking plane. A “low
pressure” pneumatic tire can be used for tests of friction on roadways.

The Ultra Small Tester of Friction of Surface:
The ultra small tester of friction of surface is the little brother of the small
tester of friction; it is the smallest and the most mobile of the measurers of friction
ever used. An ordinary surface of roadway, a pedestrians crossing, a cycle track,
or ant other surface should never constitute an unacceptable risk for accidents
such as the skid, the collision or the fall with the shift. The state authorities
concerned thus concluded that a surface should have an average friction (Mμ value)
on any section of a minimum of 0.5. It is a decree for the majority of the Road
Administrations in the entire world. There is a need for municipalities, the roads
administration, contractors etc... The U.S.T.F.S. quickly measures the tire skid
resistance in order to protect the public from accidents related to the state of
the roadways and thus to avoid all litigations.
Sectors of Measurements:
- Detection of the slipping pavement markings of roadways.
- Pedestrians crossing mark or any surface used.
- Bus stops and other high sectors of friction.
- Construction of roadways and motorways and, maintenance.
- Oil platforms at sea.
- Takeoff and landing runways for helicopters on aircraft carrier and boats.
- Airports pedestrian areas and stops zones.
- Accidents investigation concerning the Restaurants/Industries/Factories /Schools
etc.
