The French Road safety statistics reveal in regards to accident, in 50% of the cases,
the infrastructure is implied. In particular the roadway, and more precisely: its
lack of pneumatic tire skid resistance particularly in rainy weather.
In the last circular 2002-39 of May 16, 2002, it states a certain number of recommendations
to be respected to obtain suitable non-skid characteristics on the available coatings,
mainly out of matter:
Macrotexture - to evacuate surface waters of the contact area of the pneumatic
tire, particularly at high speed, and to avoid the risks of aquaplaning.
Microtexture - to break free water film and to offer the greatest “dry” contact possible between
the rubber of the pneumatic tire and the road surface.
Only one technique by mechanical shots-blasting, recreates pneumatic tire skid resistance,
and the roadways find the “microtexture” and the “macrotexture” essential
and obligatory with the longitudinal friction coefficient (LFC). Adopted in Europe
on kilometres of roads and motorways and confirmed by attestations of employment.
The new or fairly worn pneumatic tire can compensate partially for a bad macrotexture
but cannot catch up with a weak microtexture; there is a direct relation between
the pneumatic tire skid resistance and the gravity of the accident in particular
in difficult locations. From a simple visual report, it appears that the treads
of the vehicles are without macrotexture and microtexture due to the constant passages
of the wheels on asphalt more or less crushed by the outside temperature of the
tropics and clogged by various pollution. The risk of aquaplaning is inevitable
during a braking.
According to the L.C.P.C. (French Central Laboratory of bridges
and pavements), the statistics show other situations that aquaplaning with the occurrence
of an accident: with the first rain after a long dry period, or a rain where the
visibility is recovered.
Only a mechanical action makes it possible to find a good
macrotexture and a good microtexture. Guarantee of work being ensured by the SFT
(measurement device) in coordination with computing devices delivering the listing
of conformity.
